About HYC

Since 1943, Hobsonville Yacht Club has been fostering a love for sailing and promoting maritime education among youth and adults alike. It’s our mission to uphold the tradition of sailing while also looking towards the future of the sport. Above all, we simply want to see people of all ages and walks of life enjoying the waters of the Upper Waitematā Harbour (and beyond!) safely and with confidence.

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats
— Wind in the Willows, Kenneth Grahame

To achieve our goals, we’re dedicated to further expanding our junior fleet and wider community with Learn to Sail programs, social sailing opportunities, coastal/water safety coaching for both children and adults, and fun activities that engage and educate anyone who wishes to be involved.

Sailing has put New Zealand on the world stage. As a sport and hobby, it promotes confidence, teamwork, lifelong learning, and respect for the sea and for the community. Hobsonville Yacht Club, located in the thriving Hobsonville Point, is uniquely placed to provide these opportunities to West Aucklanders.
